From naval architecture to architecture
BronzeWork is a part of Classic Marine, which was
established 20 years ago to fulfil the need for custom
hardware for traditional boats. Having assembled the
skills to design and work in bronze, we find increasing
demand from architects, garden designers and furniture
designers. Our work has found its way into both historic
and modern buildings.
Moray MacPhail, the proprietor, started his working life
as an apprentice blacksmith, before undertaking 6 years
of training as a naval architect for the Admiralty. He
works with leading naval architects and boat designers
around the world, regularly contributing to boating
journals.
Specialising in one-offs and limited runs as we do, we
tend to run dumb machines and smart people – in
distinct contrast to production manufacturing
environments. This leads to the slight oddity that our
machines are almost all older than the people operating
them!
To see Classic Marine's website, then click
here, but please bear in mind that it is written for
yachties, so there is quite a lot of jargon. On the
other hand maybe you want to end up speaking like a
pirate?
