Here is
the start point, the idea being that three bronze legs
would support a steel framework. Around that there
would be wooden upper and lower faces to the outline
shown, which would then have veins of bronze inlaid. The
overall dimensions of the table top are about 2.5 by 1.5
metres.
Starting
with the legs - the designer provided the patterns,
which were then cast by the lost wax method. This was
the only credible way to replicate the intricate detail
in the design.
We then added the various
parts to enable the legs to fit the frame..
.....and they went
for patination.
Meanwhile
much effort went into the design of the frame, which had
to be as light as possible, while being strong, but not
so stiff as to make the piece "dead". The
picture shows the complete assembly.
