A dining table of some intricacy.
(Click on the images to see a bigger version)
Here is the start point, the idea being that three bronze legs would support  a steel framework. Around that there would be wooden upper and lower faces to the outline shown, which would then have veins of bronze inlaid. The overall dimensions of the table top are about 2.5 by 1.5 metres. tableviews.jpg (29705 bytes)
Starting with the legs - the designer provided the patterns, which were then cast by the lost wax method. This was the only credible way to replicate the intricate detail in the design. main1.JPG (33630 bytes)
We then added the various parts to enable the legs to fit the frame.. legcast.jpg (24643 bytes) .....and they went for patination. mainleg.jpg (20968 bytes)
Meanwhile much effort went into the design of the frame, which had to be as light as possible, while being strong, but not so stiff as to make the piece "dead". The picture shows the complete assembly. altogether.jpg (36994 bytes)
Finally the veins, profiled from sheet bronze to the design shown here Frame_Top_veins_only.jpg (26716 bytes)
