Perhaps one of the most technically difficult pieces we
have made to
date. The door itself is some 2.5 m tall by 1.6 m wide
with a 400 mm fascia panel above. The first stage
is to convert the drawing into NC routered formwork to
represent the shape. This was formed in steps....
...... which were then filled and faired to form the
basis for...
... moulding glass fibre panels which, with the
formwork, made the basis for foundry moulds to be cast
in bronze.
The door
comprised 8 panels, the fascia 2, which then had to be
welded together
The whole
thing mounted on a rotating frame easily capable of
holding the 300 kg of the cast surface
The
cast surface is mounted to an internal steel framework,
which carries the hinges etc, and which is panelled in
bronze sheet
Here
finished and assembled, ready for patination.
